LAHORE, Jan 13: An attempt to evict deposed chief justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry from his residence and putting Rana Bhagwandas under detention bear testimony to the fact that the government stands unnerved.
The view was expressed by Qazi Husain Ahmad, the Jamaat-i-Islami amer, who was addressing the party’s consultative body at Mansoora on Sunday.
The Qazi said the country had faced great humiliation after mishandling the judiciary. Lawyers were waging a historic struggle in spite of all kinds of administrative and terrorist pressures, he claimed.
In fact, he said, efforts were being made to prove the country a failed state and take over its nuclear assets. President Pervez Musharraf’s quitting the office to save the country from further disaster was what he insisted on.
All parties must get together on a two-point agenda, that is, restoration of judiciary and removal of Pervez Musharraf, demanded the JI amer who urged the opposition parties to save the country instead of participating in an election that was meant to ensure the dictator “a political face-saving”.
“As a result of power and flour crises caused by the policies of dictatorial regime, millions of workers have lost jobs and the people are finding it hard to cook food. The rulers have set fire to peaceful areas like Swat and South Waziristan. They are doing this all on behalf of the US to prove Pakistan a failed state”, was his message to the audience.
