ATTOCK, Jan 16: Two companies of the Pakistan Army arrived in Attock on Wednesday to assist the district administration in maintaining law and order during Muharram, it has been learnt.

According to the security plan, one company was deployed in the three tehsils of Jand, Fatehjang and Pindigheb, while the other in sensitive points of Attock and Hassanabdal tehsils.

About 30 places in the district, including Maluwali, Domail, Jahmat, Shebazpur, Pindigheb, Fatehjang, Sheenbagh, Shaker-dara, Kamra Kalan and Zameen-bajal, had been declared very sensitive.

In these areas troops will assist the Attock administration and other law-enforcement agencies in maintaining peace, particularly on Muharram 9 and 10. A joint flag march of police and army would be carried out at all the sensitive places as a show of strength.

Security is on high alert in the district as arrangements have been enhanced in the wake of a joint meeting of senior army and police officials. During the meeting, DPO Attock Tariq Hanif Joyia and DCO Attock Abdul Razzak Malik briefed the army team about their security plan.

They said the police had intensified patrols in the sensitive areas, besides deploying extra plainclothesmen outside Imambargahs and venues of Majalis.

Pickets have also been set up at all entry and exist points of the district to check the movement of outlaws.

All processions and Majalis will be videotaped with a view to tracing the culprit in case any untoward incident.—Correspondent
