KHAIRPUR, Jan 17: A large number of Pakistan People’s Party workers and supporters staged a demonstration in Pakka Chang for the second day on Thursday to protest against police for refusing to register an FIR pertaining to an attack on two party workers.

The protesters were led by local PPP leaders Qaimuddin, Altaf Khand and Abdul Majeed Bhango. They told journalists that PPP workers Ali Khan Bhango and Nawaz Ali Bhango were asleep at a Chakki (flour mill) in Bhango Behan on Tuesday night when 10 people attacked and injured them. The attackers asked them to stop taking part in PPP election campaign in the area and left after issuing threats of dire consequences if the PPP workers failed to obey them.

They said that the injured PPP workers were taken to a government hospital in Faiz Ganj and then to the local police station but the police did not lodge an FIR against the accused who were identified by the victims.

The attackers also removed banners and posters of PPP candidate from the flour mil, they added.

When contacted, PPP candidate for NA-216 Sajid Bhambhan said that the police had registered a non-cognizable complaint against eight accused. He condemned the attack and said that harassing the people was not a good political practice.
