HYDERABAD, Jan 27: University of Sindh Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui has urged the policymakers to pay attention to promotion of education with proper funding and facilities.

He was speaking at the closing ceremony of a five-day faculty training programme jointly organised by the Faculty of Education, Innovation Learning division of Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Intel Education at the Elsa Kazi Campus here on Sunday.

He appreciated the efforts of the HEC and said it had provided funding to public sector universities and created a good environment for higher education in the country.

He, however, stressed the need for more funds for public sector universities for higher education to fill the gap which had developed over the years so the universities could produce good graduates to meet the challenges of 21st century.

Mr. Siddiqui said computer technology was providing help in improvement of quality of life and quality of education.

He said lack of proper facilities in lower education especially in rural areas was a great injustice with children and urged the policymakers to pay attention for the improvement in primary and secondary education by providing adequate funds and other basic facilities.

The vice-chancellor said that the University of Sindh had been trying to achieve goal of quality of education that was witnessed in 1960’s.

He said that the university has already established Quality Enhancement Cell for improvement in education.

He appreciated efforts of the HEC and Intel education for conducting training workshop for teachers.

Pro-vice chancellor Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh said that it was the responsibility of teachers to think about what lies ahead for students and to prepare them for the future.

Dr Rafia said it was the need of the hour to train teachers in the field of information technology to meet the increasing needs of present as well as future times.

She said that realising the importance of computer technology for improvement of quality of education in class room, the university in collaboration with HEC and Intel Education has launched training workshop for teachers.

She said that in Pakistan we woefully lack efficient use of technology in teaching which could greatly improve creativity of teachers as well as of students.

HEC’s Innovation Learning Division director Mr Fida Hussain Baloch speaking on the occasion said that training workshops under Intel Teach faculty training programme was initiated last year in Karachi.

He said that due to the encouraging results it was decided that five workshops at the regional level would be arranged for teachers.

He announced that a second workshop would be organised in Gomal university and then in other universities.

He said such workshops were aimed at creating effective environment in universities, schools and higher educational institutes.

Miss Ratna Saleem, Quality Manager of Intel Education and resource person of the workshop appreciated the interest of teachers who participated in the programme and hoped that they would pass on this knowledge to their students.

Dean Faculty of Education Dr Parveen Munshi highlighted aims and objectives of the workshop.

Mr Akhtar Ahmed Memon, Miss Shakeela Shah, Mr Abdul Sattar Gopang and other teachers also expressed their views.

Certificates were distributed among the participants.
