RAWALPINDI, Feb 1: More than Rs3 billion will be spent over the next five years on the development of forest resources in the NWFP.

Over 27 million saplings will be planted alone in the province during the spring plantation campaign to be launched next month.

Official sources told ‘Dawn’ that major work to be carried out include landscaping of about 510,000 acres of land, while potted nurseries would spread over 440 acres and broadleaf nurseries over 1,965 acres.

In the area of afforestation, watershed management will cover 70,000 acres and fuel wood and timber plantations will be grown over 121,000 acres.
