LARKANA, April 9: The general body of the District Bar Association (DBA), Larkana, on Tuesday rejected the proposed referendum.

Mohammed Ayaz Soomro, president DBA, chaired the meeting.

The question of referendum was put by advocate Ammanullah Shaikh for discussion.

The lawyers, including Abdul Razzak Soomro, Zia Jalbani, Ayaz Soomro and many others spoke on the subject and unanimously rejected the move to support the referendum.

Zia Jalbani told Dawn that the body had opposed the planned referendum saying that it was unconstitutional.

He said that according to the constitution referendum could only be held over any national issue. There was a separate electoral college for the election of the president, he added.

Majority of the advocates stood against the referendum. Only one member of the bar, Qadir Bakhsh Bhati, supported the move while 84 members opposed it.

Meanwhile, Qazi Shamsuddain the public relation organizer of the PPP, Larkana, in his press statement on Tuesday said that General Parvez Musharraf was committing a blunder by holding referendum. It was a trap for him, which he did not understand at the moment, he added.

ARRESTED: Police have arrested a notorious dacoit Saro alias Serwar Abro on Tuesady.

The dacoit is said to be involved in more than 30 cases of heinous nature registered with different police stations in the district.

Meanwhile, Veehar police have arrested two motorcycle robbers, Qalandar Bakhsh alias Karim Brohi and Maznoo Jhatyal, and seized a robbed motorcycle CD-70 from their possession.
