HYDERABAD, Feb 3: Sindh Printers, Publishers and Book Sellers Association chairman Naseem-us-Sehr has appealed to Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad to appoint a committee to hold an inquiry into the delay in publication of textbooks by the Sindh Textbook Board.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said that following the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto, the Sindh Textbook Board was ransacked by miscreants on Dec 28, and it suffered a loss of about Rs6 million.

He said that the following day, the Sindh education secretary froze the accounts of the board and even after a month the work had remained suspended.

He alleged that the secretary education was creating hurdles in the work of board chairman Shamsuddin Solangi who had saved an amount of Rs20 million in purchasing of paper for printing. He said the chairman had also brought the paper lying in godowns on record and saved the board from purchasing 3,500 tons of paper.

He said he had failed to understand why was the Sindh Textbook Board not allowed to get the textbooks published though the new academic session starting in April.

He appealed to the Sindh governor to appoint a committee to probe into the cause of delay in the publication of textbooks.
