LAHORE, Feb 4: Lahorites can continue consuming chicken and eggs without any fear as no case of bird flu has been detected in the city so far.

This was stated during a meeting of veterinary doctors held here on Monday with District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mian Ijaz in the chair to review the arrangements for dealing with any possible outbreak of the bird flu.

The district officer for environment and livestock informed the DCO that samples were being collected from poultry farms in and around the city and being analysed for the bird flue virus. The virus had not been detected in any sample so far and the people could consume chicken cooked at 70 to 100 degrees Celsius without any fear, they informed the participants of the meeting.

They said special teams of doctors and veterinarians had been constituted to start treatment of patients showing signs of being affected from bird flu virus. A media campaign was also being launched to provide correct information to the people about the bird flu virus, they said.
