HYDERABAD, Feb 6: District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput said on Wednesday that geological mapping of the city and the Hyderabad Master Plan prepared by the district government are being used as main sources for preparing a disaster management strategy in the district.

He was talking to a delegation from Aga Khan Planning and Building Services (APBS) Pakistan, which called on him to discuss the implementation of different components of the disaster risk management strategy launched by APBS in Hyderabad.

The naib nazim informed the delegation that district government was in process to put into effect the district disaster management strategy in the field to meet eventualities of natural as well as man-made disasters.

He said that in addition to that experts have been engaged to identify risks of disaster by keeping in view the natural and physical environment of the area.

However, he assured the delegation that the components and concerns identified by their organisation would also be kept under consideration and a joint working group comprising NGOs working to reduce the risks of disasters would be formed to avoid the duplication of work and benefit from the experience and expertise of each other.

Masood Ahmed Mahessar from APBS while briefing the zila naib nazim said that his organisation has launched more than 50 different works in Northern Areas to avoid and reduce the losses in disaster incidents.

He said that out of these works, seven had been launched in Sindh.

He said that building construction programme in housing sector, water and sanitation extension programme and habitat risk management were the areas in which his management was interested to work with the district government.
