KARACHI, Feb 16: Pakistan’s Shahid Zaman defeated compatriot Bilal Zaman after a 33-minute showdown in the quarters of Asian Senior Squash Championship in Kuwait to qualify for the semis on Friday.
Ranked 57 in the world, Shahid faced some stiff resistance from Bilal in the first set before winning it 10-8.
He then took the second and third sets easily at 9-3, 9-6 to make it to the semifinals.
Another Pakistani Majid Khan failed to match the skills of Malaysian top seed Mohammad Azlan Iskandar in the quarters. World No16 Azlan easily claimed the first set 9-0 and continued his supremacy to win the second set 9-0.
Majid, in the third set, scored a single point before suffering a humiliating falling 9-1. The match lasted 47 minutes.
Meanwhile, second seeded Malaysian Ong Beng Hee overpowered Indian Siddharth Suchde 9-2, 9-3, 8-10, 9-2 in 62 minutes to earn a berth in the semis.
In the fourth quarter-final match, Malaysia’s Abdullah Al-Mezayen came back into the match after one set down to beat another Indian Saurav Ghosal 8-10, 9-4, 9-1, 9-3 in 72 minutes.
