KARACHI, April 12: Just how serious the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is to produce coaches could be well judged by its approach as a former skipper reluctantly joined the ongoing FIH coaches course here Friday that concludes after two days.
Hasan Sardar, a former Pakistan spearhead, who had been named among the participants of the seven-day course that started here at Hockey Club of Pakistan April 8, had regretted initially.
However, the former striker, joined the course Friday after what he called insistence of the Lahore-based PHF.
“I had regretted at first, but I have changed my mind after the PHF asked me to join (the course),” he said.
The former captain, who seems to be taking lectures in the field half-heartedly, however, said the courses could be beneficial to the game though he was not convinced that training was a part-time job.
“Although it (coaching course) is good for coaches, training is not a part-time job and needs full attention which I can’t give due to my professional commitments.
“I am not interested in attending further courses,” Hasan said when asked if would participate in some more courses.
The course is being conducted by an FIH master coach deputed by the sport’s international governing body on PHF’s request.
The point is what the PHF will achieve by cajoling a former Pakistan player to attend the course and that is too when it is about to conclude barely after two days.
Hasan’s presence at the course lacks wisdom specially since he had clearly stated he has no interest in attending such courses in the future, making the three-day exercise futile.
