HYDERABAD, Feb 19: Two candidates belonging to the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have refused to accept election results and accused the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of massive rigging.

PPP’s Ali Mohammad Sehto of NA-219 Latifabad-Hyderabad and Abdul Jabbar Khan of PS-49 Latifabad said that they will challenge results in the Sindh High Court and demanded re-elections on the two seats under the supervision of Army.

They were speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday along with Hyderababd district PPP president, Zahid Ali Bhurgari, who, according to unofficial results, has returned on PS-47 Qasimabad seat.

Mr Sehto and Mr Khan alleged their polling agents were thrown out of polling stations of Latifabad unit 11 and 12 and others with thousands barred from using their right to vote.

They said six PPP activists received injuries on raising voice against highhandedness of MQM as they were fired upon. They said police not only refused to register FIR but also declined referral to hospital for treatment.

The DPO, who was privy to rigging, they added, openly supported the MQM. They said ballot boxes were taken to Public School where results were changed.

The PPP candidates demanded re-elections on NA-219 and PS-49. They said if their demand was rejected, they will file a petition in the Sindh High Court.

PML-N candidate for PS-49 Latifabad, Samiuddin Sajid also accused the MQM of rigging polls and resorting to violence.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday, he said his election camps were uprooted and workers harassed at gunpoint.

He alleged that at many places, people were not allowed to cast vote and agents were forced to leave polling stations by armed people and police. He said there was an open display of arms but the law enforcement agencies refused to intervene.

He said instead of taking ballot boxes to the court, the same were taken to Public School to change results.

He threatened to go to the court if justice was not restored and demanded that re-election should be held in this constituency under the supervision of Army.
