HYDERABAD, Feb 22: Pasban activists staged a protest demonstration here on Friday against the brutal police action taken against lawyers rallying in Karachi for the reinstatement of sacked judges.

Speaking on the occasion, the city president of the organisation Shafique Ahmed Qureshi called upon the newly-elected members of the National Assembly to begin their work with the reinstatement of sacked judges of the superior judiciary if they really wanted to change the system.

He condemned the arrests and thrashing of lawyers who were only demanding restoration of judges and demanded that the police officers responsible for the severe baton-charge should be arrested.

Mr Qureshi said the people had rejected President Pervez Musharraf and his allies and urged the newly-elected National Assembly members to respect the mandate of the people.

Pasban general secretary Younus Memon also spoke on the occasion. The protesters raised slogans of “Reinstate the sacked judges; eliminate price hike”.

PPP RALLY: A large number of PPP activists took out a rally in Tando Mohammad Khan on Friday to celebrate the landslide victory of the party in the elections.

The rally after parading on different roads terminated at the press club.

Later on, to pay the homage to their slain leader, Benazir Bhutto, the participant lit candles before a huge portrait of Ms Bhutto on Phulelli road.

They also held a mock funeral of bicycle, the election symbol of the PML-Q.

Speaking on the occasion, PPP minority wing leader Dr Ashok Kumar said that the entire nation had welcomed the announcement of Asif Ali Zardari, Mian Nawaz Sharif and Asfandyar Wali to form a coalition government.

He alleged that massive rigging was committed in the elections by the Arbab group in Tharparkar district and claimed that a large number of ballot papers had been recovered which were ample proof of the rigging.

He said that some presiding offices had confirmed this fact and urged the Election Commission to take notice of the malpractices in the polls.

Ashok Kumar announced that it had been decided that no confidence motions would be tabled throughout Sindh against the Khushhal Pakistan Panel nazims.

Asim Ashraf Memon, Suneel Kumar and other party leaders also spoke on the occasion.
