KHAIRPUR, Feb 24: Former district nazim Nafisa Shah has accused the opponents of Pakistan People’s Party of committing large-scale rigging and demanded that the Election Commission of Pakistan should order re-election for NA-216 and PS-30 seats.

Addressing a rally held by workers, supporters and office-bearers of the Kingri chapter of the Pakistan People’s Party outside the press club she said that armed men opened fire on the house of Ghulam Haider Manganhar, a PPP leader, in Pir Jo Goth, and took many PPP polling agents hostage at gunpoint.

She said that the opponents killed a party worker Wali Mohammad Kanhar in broad daylight just outside the polling station while Abdul Jabbar Kanhar suffered injuries.Ms Shah said that Feb 18 elections proved to be the last nail in the coffin of dictatorship. The party’s victory throughout the country had proved that even after death Benazir Bhutto was the real chain of the federation, she said.

She claimed that PPP candidate for PS-30 had actually won despite open display of arms on the polling day by the supporters and workers of opponents.

The president of the party’s Kingri chapter Ali Gohar Kanhar said that armed men killed party worker Wali Mohammad Kanhar and injured Abdul Jabbar Kanhar to spread harassment among workers.

But the workers did not lose hearts and remained present at the polling stations till the announcement of results, he said.
