LARKANA, Feb 24: A jirga convened here on Sunday to settle an old dispute between two groups of Lasharis which had claimed 12 precious lives over the ownership of a 10-foot wall, slapped a fine of Rs4. 5 million on one of the groups.
The chief of Lashari tribe, Sardar Dhani Bakhsh Lashri, headed the jirga proceedings which were held at the Sir Shah Nawaz Bhutto Library.
The dispute arose in 1999 over the ownership of the wall in Yar Mohammed Lashari village. Those who lost their lives included Baggan Khan, Mithal, Illahi Bakhsh, Rashid, Haji Gul Bahar, Ghulam Muhammed, Jummo Khan, Dilashad, Imdad Lashari, Ahmed Khan and Arbab. The jirga imposed a fine of Rs 4.5 million on the Kalo Khan Lashari group.
Under the decision the Kalo Khan would pay the money to the Ghulam Nabi Lashari group within a period of three months while the violator of the decision would pay Rs2.0 million.
KIDNAP: Armed men kidnapped three persons, Zulfikar Abro, Rashid Abro and Nadir Abro, from a farm land in Ali Baig Kodrani village while they were guarding the wheat yield in the jurisdiction of ‘Waris Dino Machi’ police station and escaped. After a short distance they let off Nadir and Rashid and fled with Zulfikar Abro. Police were clueless about the kidnappers.
