HYDERABAD, Feb 26: Nineteen of 23 members of the Tando Mohammad Khan district council have reportedly expressed full confidence in the District Nazim Mir Inayat Ali Khan Talpur, in a move that aims to preempt a no-confidence motion by Pakistan People’s Party-backed members.

Sources said that the 19 members held an informal meeting at Mir Garden late on Monday night to discuss strategy for defeating a possible no-confidence motion against the district nazim in the wake of PPP’s victory in Feb 18 general elections.

The Mir group has been badly mauled in elections with PPP winning all the three seats, one national assembly and two provincial assembly seats.

The party is now trying to oust all the district and taluka nazims throughout the province where the party’s opponents hold the posts. Tando Muhammad Khan is no exception.

Mr Talpur had expressed his thanks to the district council members for reposing confidence in him, sources said.

The district was virtually in ruins when he took over charge as its nazim but within a couple of years he changed its look by carrying out massive development works, he said.

Mir Ghulam Ali Park, Civic Centre and installation of a large number of streetlights on the main roundabouts had added to the beauty of Tando Muhammad Khan, he said.

He said that the district would cooperate with the new provincial government and expressed the hope that the provincial government, too, would support the district.
