ISLAMABAD, Feb 26: Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that the army is fully capable of defeating any threat to the security of the country.

Addressing officers, junior commissioned officers, non-commissioned officers and jawans during a visit to a field area, Gen Kayani emphasised the need to remain fully committed to enhancing the capability.

Earlier, the COAS visited the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Complex where he was briefed on the UAV System inducted into the army. He also witnessed a demonstration flight.

Defence sources said the country had developed and tested two versions of UAVs and inducted them service.

A UAV, sometimes called an unmanned air-reconnaissance vehicle, is an unpiloted aircraft. UAVs can be remote controlled and can also fly on their own based on pre-programmed flight plans or more complex dynamic automation systems. UAVs are currently used in a number of military roles, including reconnaissance and attack. They are also used in a small but growing number of civil applications such as firefighting where a human observer would be at risk, police observation of civil disturbances and scenes of crimes, and reconnaissance support in natural disasters. UAVs are often preferred for missions that are too “dull, dirty or dangerous” for manned aircraft.
