PCB chief orders scrutiny of clubs

ISLAMABAD, April 14: With the elections of the Islamabad Cricket Association (ICA) fixed for May 2, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Lt Gen Tauqir Zia, has ordered scrutiny of clubs in the region.

Tauqir said that a three-man committee comprising Brig Khawaja Nasir, Brig Iqbal Awan and PCB’s legal adviser Asghar Haider had been formed to conduct the scrutiny within three days between April 23 and 25.

“I am sure that the committee will do a good job,” he said at the KRL ground where he had turned up to play for Choudhry Sports against KRL Cricket Club.

Tauqir called upon the associations in Rawalpindi and Islamabad to settle their internal matters themselves instead of dragging the PCB into their affairs each time. “I think you should solve your problems yourselves because God helps those who help themselves.”

Justice Ali Nawaz Chowhan of the Lahore High Court (Rawalpindi Bench) had ruled last month that elections of ICA which is currently being run by an ad hoc committee headed by Mansoor Ahmed, be held within seven weeks.

The ICA has been under an ad hoc committee since Oct 26, 2000.
