HYDERABAD, Feb 29: Protest demonstrations were held across Sindh on Friday by various organisations against the publication of blasphemous cartoons in 17 newspapers of Denmark.
Speakers called upon the rulers of the Muslim world and the government of Pakistan to boycott Danish goods and sever diplomatic relations with Denmark.
In Hyderabad, over half a dozen religious parties and organisations held protest demonstrations outside the press club after Friday prayers to condemn the publication of the cartoons by the Danish papers. The biggest rally was led by the JUP chief, Maulana Anas Noorani, which marched from Seroghat to Hyder chowk. Hundreds of JUP workers participated in the rally.
Jamat-i-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan Fazl (JUI-F) , Pasban, All Pakistan Welfare Society, Tibb-e-Islami Council and students of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology also staged protest demonstrations outside the press club.
Our Sukkur correspondent adds: Two separate protest rallies were taken out by activists of Shia Action Committee (SAC) and Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan here in Sukkur on Friday, against publication of blasphemous caricatures in Danish newspapers.
Hundreds of SAC activists took to the streets from Haideri Mosque, Old Sukkur and raised slogans against the Danish government, marched on the main thoroughfares of the city.
