LAHORE, March 2: Wapda claimed all the three gold medals at stake in the seniors’ category on the first day of the two-day 17th national karate championship in Sialkot on Sunday.

Wapda’s Ghulam Ali in individual kata, Saad Abbas in the below 60kgs and the trio of Khalid Noor, Noorullah and Israr-ul-Haq claimed gold medals in the seniors events.

Meanwhile, in the juniors category, competition was held only in individual kata where Ali Asghar of Balochostan bagged the gold medal.

Individual kata: Ghulam Ali (Wapda); Baz Mohammad (NWFP); Mohammad Imtiaz (Army); Below 60kgs: Saad Abbas (Wapda); Naimatullah (Balochistan); Jabbar Khan (Sindh). Team kata: Wapda (Khalid Noor, Noorullah, Israr-ul-Haq); Army (Imtiaz Mohammad, Ibrahim, Hafiz Asadullah; Punjab (M. Naeem, Ali Murtaza, Zubair Afzal).

Juniors:

Individual kata: Ali Asghar (Balochistan); Abdul Khaliq (Wapda); Murtajis Abbas (Islamabad).
