HYDERABAD, March 4: The annual congress of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party has demanded reinstatement of deposed judges of superior judiciary, repeal of Pemra Ordinance amendments to the 1973 Constitution and restoration of supremacy of parliament.

The congress adopted a number of resolutions at its concluding session on Monday, which also included demand for an end to army’s interference in the country’s political affairs, abolition of concurrent list and amendments to the Constitution in light of 1940 Resolution granting full provincial autonomy to the federating units.

The congress said that people had rejected Pervez Musharraf and his allies in Feb 18 elections. He should, therefore, be removed by the parliament, it said, adding that Sindh governor should also be removed.

The congress demanded regularisation of Sindhi villages in Karachi and removal of ban on employment of Sindhis in the companies and corporations in Karachi and admission of Sindhi students to the educational institutions of the provincial capital.

The congress demanded that abolition of local body system, restoration of all the districts including Hyderabad, which had been divided on ethnic lines to their original status, and division of Karachi into five districts.

The congress called for removal of ban on student unions and repeal of anti-worker and anti-peasant laws and urged the government to ensure that the sugar mills paid the farmers official price of sugarcane.
