RAWALPINDI, March 6: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) here on Thursday sent two men to the central jail in Adiala on judicial remand for four days.
The men are allegedly involved in four suicide bomb blasts that took place last year in Rawalpindi. Two explosions occurred in R.A. Bazaar area, one at a police picket near the Army House and one near Liaquat Bagh that also killed PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
ATC No. 1 Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman sent Rafaqat and Hasnain Gul to the jail after the Civil Lines police did not seek more physical remand in the police picket attack case that killed seven people, including three policemen, and injured 31 others on October 30, 2007.
The R.A. Bazaar police also included them in their investigation about the twin bomb blasts on September 4, 2007, that killed 27 people, mostly officials of an intelligence agency. In this case also, they were sent to the jail for four days.
Case about the twin blasts was registered with the area police on the charges of terrorism, murder, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, impersonation, damaging building and possessing illegal explosive materials.
The two accused along with three others — Aitzaz Shah, Sher Zaman and Abdul Rasheed — were sent on judicial remand till March 10 again in the Ms Bhutto’s murder case.
