HYDERABAD, March 7: Rallies and processions were taken out on Friday in many districts of Sindh against the republication of blasphemous caricatures in Denmark newspapers.

The protesters burnt effigies of the Danish premier and flags of Denmark.

The Pasban Tehrik had also given a call for a province-wide strike on Friday.

In Hyderabad rallies were taken out by Anjuman-i-Sarfar oshan-i-Islam, Tanzeem-i-Islami, Naujawanan-i-Ashiqan-i-Mustafa, district chapter of JUP and the Pasban Tehrik.

The protesters condemned the publication of caricatures in Danish newspapers. They staged a protest outside the press club.

In Mirpurkhas, a shutterdown strike was observed in Jhuddo town. A procession was taken out from Jamia Masjid Jhuddo.

MMA activists also staged a demonstration at the Market chowk where speakers condemned the Danish government and demanded of the Muslim countries to sever relations with Denmark. The JUI activists also blocked main highway at Raja Rasti and Dhoronaro in Umerkot.

The protesters, who were carrying banners and placards, blocked the Mirpurkhas-Umerkot road for some time.

In Sanghar, protest rallies were taken out in Tando Adam and Khipro towns. In Khipro a protest rally started from Jamia Masjid and terminated at Shaheed chowk. Similar rallies were also taken out in Tando Adam.

In Shikarpur, the activists of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam and Jamat Ahl-i-Sunnat Qadria took out a rally after Juma prayers. The rally started from Madressa Ghousia Jilani Qadria and after marching on Latif Shah road reached Lakhi Gate where protesters staged a demonstration.

In Thatta, two big rallies were taken out by Jamiat Tuleba-i-Islam and the teachers and students of a high school. Both rallies separately marched through the main thoroughfares.

The protesters carried banners and wore black armbands and raised slogans against the US and Denmark.

In Naushahro Feroze, about 50 JUI activists took out a rally from Jamia Masjid Kandiaro to mukhtiarkar office chowk and staged a demonstration.

The activists of Sunni Tahreek also took out a rally from Naushahro Feroze-Tharushah road chowk to press club.
