KARACHI, March 11: Mustafa Zaidi, Talha Zubair and Imran Mooraj dominated the boys and juniors categories by cruising into two finals apiece in the second Sindh ranking tennis tournament at the DHA Sunset Club courts on Tuesday.

Top seed Zaidi was 1-0 up against second seed Nameer Shamsi in the unfinished boys U-15 singles final on the penultimate day. The former who won the first set 6-0 is set to land the crown when play resumes as his opponent was nursing a leg injury by the end of the day.

Nameer is one of the three players selected by the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) after recent trials held at Islamabad for 14 and under

ITF team event qualifiers, due to take place in China next month.

Mustafa’s next match will be against seasoned Zuhair Raza when the two meet for the juniors U-17 title.

Talha and Imran will be up against each other for the honours in the boys singles U-13 and U-11 finals.

Upcoming Imran created quite a stir when he toppled fancied Khawaja Hamza in the U-13 singles pro-set semis 8-5 to set a date with Talha who in another encounter beat Fraz Ahmed Faiz 8-6. This was Hamza’s first defeat during the last few years.

As for boys U-11 singles final, it will be a repeat of the boys U-13 after Imran and Talha won their pre-finals.

The un-seeded pair of Abdul Rehman/Talha Saeed claimed the juniors’ doubles title by getting the better of the top seed combination of Omer Shahid/ Mustafa Zaidi 6-2, 7-6.

Boys U-11 singles pro-set semi-final: Imran Mooraj bt Ali Mooraj 8-6.
