HANGU, March 14: Protesters on the call of the All Teachers Association blocked the Hangu-Kohat road for several hours and staged a sit-in against the killing of two primary school teachers on Friday.
“We will boycott schools for the next four days,” the teachers said and demanded arrest of the killers without delay.
Two primary school teachers Hassan Mohammad and Muyasir Ali were killed by unidentified criminals two days earlier in the Bara Abbaskhel area of Hangu.
The protesting teachers took to the streets to lodge a protest against the gory incident and demanded of the authorities to order probe into the incident otherwise they would continue their protest.
Shahidullah Orakzai, president of the teachers’ body, demanded of the police to include the EDO in the investigation, urging the authorities concerned to compensate family members of the deceased teachers.
The teachers dispersed peacefully after assurance by the DCO and district nazim that the culprits would be arrested and brought to justice soon. The police had lodged an FIR against a suspected person and started investigations.
KOHAT: The local authorities re-opened the Kohat-Hangu road, which was closed for traffic after the murder of the school teachers, police said.
Negotiations were held by SP Hangu Quresh Khan and acting SP Kohat Athar Waheed with the respective groups to ensure safety of passengers travelling between the two districts. But people were still hesitant to travel on the road and were using the Hangu-Lachi route amidst tension.
Meanwhile, authorities have claimed to have identified the killers of two teachers. The police conducted raids at the houses of the accused who had managed to escape.
The brother of one of the slain teacher, Muyasir Ali, told police that Mohammad Zaman, Umar Rehman and Sher Ahmed were allegedly involved in the murder. In an FIR registered on Friday he said that his brother had been receiving threats from the accused to get himself transferred from the area.
