ISLAMABAD, March 14: The new government will review all decisions of the caretaker government, especially relating to postings and transfers, appointments, awarding contracts and selling assets, says Senator Raza Rabbani, deputy secretary-general of the Pakistan People’s Party.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, the PPP leader, who is also leader of the opposition in the Senate, warned the bureaucracy against being used by the caretaker set-up.

He accused the caretaker government of fulfilling the political agenda of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q. “Under federal government rules, this constitutes … malafide intent and misconduct,” he said.

Major decisions taken by the caretakers include introduction of ration cards, raising petroleum prices and handing over the administrative control of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from the interior ministry to the cabinet division.

According to the PPP leader, the mandate of the caretaker government was limited to helpingthe Election Commission in holding fair and free elections and running day-to-day affairs of the government.

Senator Rabbani said: “The coalition government will review all actions taken by the caretaker government during its tenure and in particular transfer and postings, appointments, awarding contracts, selling assets of the federal government or autonomous or semi-autonomous bodies and making far-reaching policy decisions, in particular taken after Feb 18.”

He said that the caretaker government had been requested via media to refrain from making far reaching policies, but it had so far not refrained from doing so.
