SWABI, March 15: The Malgary Ustazam (MU), an Awami National Party (ANP) wing representing teaching community has demanded that the government should resolve the problems faced by the teachers and reverse the ‘unjust’ they had experienced during the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) government in the province.

This was stressed in a meeting presided over by its president Manfat Khan here on Saturday.

The ANP wing has rejuvenated with the ANP victory in the February 18 elections. The NWFP education minister-designate Mian Iftikhar Hussain in the ANP-PPPP coalition government, also belongs to ANP.

Mr Khan said that the MMA-led government upgraded the grades of the Arabic teachers (AT) from BPS-9 to BPS-15 and teleology teachers (TT) from BPS-7 to BPS-14, while all the remaining teaching community was ignored. “We are happy that the AT and TT teachers were upgraded, but it was unjust to ignore the others,” he said.

“The CT, PET and DM teachers were working on BPS-14 and they remained in the same grade, while AT and TT were promoted. In addition the caretaker government released an order in which, the CT and SET and PTC teachers were promoted but the DMs and PETs were overlooked,” he said. “We hope that Mr Iftikhar would eradicate the sense of deprivation prevailing among teachers and the PETs and DMs would also be promoted to BPS-15.”

Manfat Khan said that the caretaker government also announced to immediately hold the teacher union elections, but it had failed to announce the schedule. The meeting demanded that the schedule should be announced because the teaching community wants to make their own plan for the election.
