APDM suggests 18th amendment

SUKKUR, March 18: The All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) has demanded restoration of all deposed judges to the position prior to Nov 3, 2007, restoration of the Constitution and bringing an 18th amendment after cancellation of all un-constitutional amendments introduced by the past government.

The demands were made at a seminar organised by the APDM at Sukkur Press Club here on Tuesday on “Restoration of judiciary and resolving peoples’ problems”.

Sindh APDM President and former MNA Asadullah Bhutto while addressing the seminar said that the country was passing through a judicial crisis while the solution lies in the restoration of judiciary.

He said that the restoration of deposed judges through passing a resolution in the Parliament was not a solution and the situation could turn worse because of the actions taken by President Pervez Musharraf on Nov 3.

Mr Bhutto said that the Parliament will have to adopt a constitutional way and should make a constitutional amendment for this purpose.

The seminar was also addressed by Sukkur Union of Journalists President Lala Asad Pathan, Nazeer Soomro, Waheed Khoso of Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party, Masood Ali Khan, Maulana Hizbullah Jakhro, Ghulam Ghous Ghazi of Jamaat-i-Islami, Dr Rab Nawaz Kalwar, Abdul Rab Hashmi, Mehfooz Akhter Khan of Tehrik-i-Insaf, Sachal Bhatti, Abdul Hakeem Zangejo of Awami Tehrik, and leaders of different component parties of the APDM.

They said the people had started a countdown for the restoration of judges after the oath taking of new assembly members.

They also demanded of the National Assembly to pass a resolution against Danish newspapers and the Danish government for publishing blasphemous images and sever diplomatic ties with the Danish government.

They demanded of the upcoming government to make amendments in the Pemra and the IRO ordinances and lift all restrictions imposed on media.

They urged new rulers to resolve the basic problems such as ever increasing price hike, frequent loadshedding, and poverty on priority basis.

They called for restarting the thermal powerhouse in Sukkur to overcome loadshedding. They further demanded that loadshedding should also be carried out in Islamabad as all parts of the country.
