Protest Rally against caricatures

TOBA TEK SINGH, March 19: Doctors, medics, druggists and locals took out a procession on Wednesday in Gojra to condemn republication of blasphemous caricatures by the Danish media.

Medical Superintendent Dr Altaf Pervaiz Qasim and druggists’ association president Mian Abdul Aziz led the demonstration, which started from Fawara Chowk.

The participants carrying placards and banners marched on various city roads and dispersed after reaching Fawara Chowk back. They were demanding severing diplomatic relations with Denmark.

STRIKE: Members of the District Bar Association (DBA) observed one-hour strike on Wednesday on the call of Pakistan Bar Council to demand immediate restoration of all superior courts judges deposed under the Nov 3 Provisional Constitution Order.

A DBA meeting was also held with president Mian Shoaib Muhammad in the chair which urged parliamentarians to fulfil their promise to reinstate the deposed judges within 30 days. Kamalia and Gojra lawyers also observed the strike.

BAN: District Nazim Chaudhry Abdul Sattar has imposed a ban on holding public meetings, staging rallies and processions, writing graffiti on walls and carrying arms in the district for a period of one month.

In another order on Wednesday, he prohibited entry of any person in 100-yard radius of matriculation’s examination centre at Rafiqui Airbase in Shorkot Cantonment under the auspices of federal board of intermediate and secondary education, Islamabad. The order shall remain operative till May 3.
