KARACHI, March 23: Pakistan’s talented women’s tennis player Nida Waseem was decorated with the Pride of Performance at a special ceremony held to commemorate Pakistan Day at the Governor’s House on Sunday.
She was the only sportsperson amongst the 29 Sindh-domiciled people who received the prestigious awards from the Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan.
“In recognition of her outstanding performance in the last decade both at national and international level in the field of women’s tennis,” said the citation read out on the occasion.
The award also carries a cheque of Rs0.3 million.
Born on Nov 1, 1982 in Karachi, Nida who is studying Law in London had specially flown in to receive the award.
Three other sportsmen — Cdr Zahid Rauf (sailing), Zubair Ahmed (kabaddi) and Shahid Rehman (jockey) — received their awards in the province of their domicile.
