LAHORE, March 27: Lahore police said on Thursday they had arrested two suspected terrorists involved in suicide blasts at the GPO Chowk and Naval War College. The suspects were said to be members of a banned militant organisation.

A suicide jacket and a large quantity of explosives were seized from the suspects. Police said the suspects, who had planned more suicide attacks in the Punjab capital, belonged to the South Waziristan-based Jehad-i-Islami.

Law-enforcement agencies personnel told Dawn that the suicide bombers who had blown themselves up in Naval War College belonged to Bangladesh and the militant who had carried out the attack on the GPO Chowk was from Kenya.

Capital City Police Officer Malik Muhammad Iqbal told newsmen that police, in cooperation with intelligence agencies, had arrested Muhammad Shahzad and Nadeem Hussain on a tip-off. They had provided help to terrorists and suicide bombers in a rented house in Karnalpura near Wahdat Colony.

Nadeen was running a public call office on the Ferozpur Road. He helped suicide bombers and also kept explosives in his home.

The CCPO said that police had got important information about masterminds of the suicide blasts and steps were being taken to arrest them.

Police also seized 25 bags of explosives, 60 detonators, one suicide jacket, 32 battery cells, one packet of ball bearings, 11 packets of iron particles, six empty bags of parachute, one orange fuse cable and other material.
