Gujranwala lawyer shot at, injured

GUJRANWALA, March 28: A local advocate was shot at and injured by unidentified assailants outside his house on Sialkot Road here on Friday.

Former District Bar Association (DBA) general-secretary Chaudhry Amanullah was present at his house when some unidentified callers asked him to meet them in connection with a case.

When he reached the specified location on Sialkot Road, the assailants shot at him and fled. He was taken to DHQ Hospital in critical condition. The police have registered a case.

MEETING WITH CJP: A delegation of 50 DBA members led by general-secretary Chaudhry Khalid Latif and former MNA Malik Mehdi Hassan met with deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry at his residence in Islamabad on Friday.

The lawyers offered the CJP to address the Gujranwala DBA members, which he candidly accepted.

The deposed chief justice of Pakistan praised the lawyers’ movement erupted after March 9, 2007, for the establishment of rule of law, supremacy of the Constitution and independence of the judiciary and thanked them for rendering supreme sacrifices in waging such a unique struggle. He urged them to continue their efforts for the greater cause till the achievement of its goals.

The lawyers assured the deposed CJP that they would continue their struggle till the reinstatement of all judges deposed under the Nov 3, 2007 edition of Provisional Constitution Orders and independence of the judiciary.

LOOTED: Dacoits looted two houses, injured one person and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs3 million in two strikes on Friday.

Five armed men forced their entry into the house of Arshad on College Road and fled after collecting cash and jewellery worth Rs2.5 million. They also injured Arshad’s son Salman on resistance.

Two robbers entered the house of Pervaiz in Sharif Farm Rahwali and made off with cash and gold ornaments.
