LARKANA, March 30: The Provincial Police Officer Sindh, Azhar Farooqi, along with PPP leaders and senior police officers here on Sunday reviewed the security arrangements for April 4 in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto during a planned congregation marking the 29th death anniversary of late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The PPO promised to deploy a police force of 5,000 personnel and to install scanning machines to keep an eye on miscreants, said Anwar Bhutto General Secretary of PPP Larkana district and former MNA.

The district nazim of Larkana had refused to provide barbed wires on the day, Bhutto said and added that the PPO was requested for arranging wires. Mr Farooqi had asked the PPP for 600 workers to assist the police in making the arrangements, he said.

The PPO, after visiting Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto, after offering fateha at the grave of Ms Benazir Bhutto and meeting the mazar committee, told journalists that this year special security arrangements would be made.

He said the Deputy Inspector General of Police Larkana, Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti, would be the over all in-charge of the security while the DPO Larkana would be the key security officer on the day. The Rangers would be in the back up support of police, he said.

Calling this a mega event, the PPO said cameras and jammers would also be installed as we expect the presence of dignitaries in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto from federal government and Sindh government after the induction of PPP’s government. Responding to a question, he said as such “we don’t have any threat of terrorism but terrorist had always tried to take benefit from such big event and that was why hidden camera would be fitted for recording the whole event along with taking other measures”.

He said police force from Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur ranges and the training schools would be called in on the occasion while special traffic arrangements would be made to avoid any traffic jam.

The traffic police from Karachi would be called in and deployed to control the traffic, he said.

Police would take over the control at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto and Naudero from April 3, he said.

Two killed

Two men, including Sohrab Shaikh, the brother of the union council-8 nazim, were killed on Sunday on Mirodero Street when an alleged killer opened fire on them.

The killer identified as Zohaib alias Vicky Shaikh, had showered bullets and killed Sohrab on the spot while Altaf Brohi, a rice trader was seriously injured and admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital.

He succumbed to injuries in the evening in the hospital when he was being shifted to Karachi.

Police have arrested Zohaib alias Vicky Shaikh and taken in custody a girl whose identification was being kept secret, sources said.
