HYDERABAD, April 2: A meagre amount of Rs15,000 was handed over to the brutalized police head constable Ali Hassan Solangi on Wednesday by an MPA-elect Dr. Mohan Lal Kohistani on behalf of Sindh’s chief minister designate and president of the Pakistan People’s Party’s Sindh chapter Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Solangi’s brother Ali Ahmed Solangi said that the MPA-elect offered the money as treatment expenses on behalf of PPP but he was informed that the victim was already getting free treatment at the government hospital.

The MPA-elect from Jamshoro inquired after his health on behalf of Mr Shah, who was scheduled to visit him on Monday but could not make it. Another MPA-elect Zahid Bhurgari also visited the tortured policeman.

Earlier, District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil handed over Rs100,000 to the victim on behalf of district government.

Deedar Shoro and his son Jam Khan Shoro who are prime accused in the policeman’s case had joined PPP on Dec 17 at the first public meeting of Benazir Bhutto in Hyderabad. Deedar Shoro’s brother, Noor Mohammad Shoro, is also an accused and is taluka nazim of Qasimabad. There are nine accused in all.

They were nominated as accused in the case after Solangi’s hands were cut off at the wrist joints, he was fired upon and acid was poured on his body by his tormentors in Deh Shah Bukhari in Hatri police station’s limits.

Hatri police lodged a separate case against the accused on the complaint of Solangi’s nephew.

Solangi claimed that he had been “punished” for his defiance of electoral rigging in 2005 local bodies elections in UC-4 of Shoro Goth when rangers had beaten up Deedar Shoro.

It followed a clash between Shoros and PPP activists including Naeem Jarwar, whose sister was presiding officer at the female polling station of the area and Roshan Solangi.

The DPO had constituted a team had failed in arresting any of the accused.
