KARACHI, April 5: The State Bank of Pakistan on Saturday once again extended the deadline for submission of a copy of Computerised National Identity Card for an accountholder.
The SBP issued a circular to all banks and development finance institutions (DFIs) carrying fresh information.
“Based on the representation received from the banks, indicating difficulties in meeting the extended deadline of March 31, 2008, it has been decided to extend the date for meeting the subject requirement up to June 30, 2008,” said the SBP circular.
Banks and DFIs were advised to carry on aggressive public campaign through the print and electronic media for creating public awareness on requirement of CNIC for banking purposes.
Banks and DFIs were further advised to contact the accountholders individually who have not yet provided the attested copy of CNIC.
Banks are also required to provide information on progress made on the subject on a fortnightly basis, within seven days of the close of each fortnight.
