RAWALPINDI, April 7: Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said here on Monday that every nation had a right to safeguard its national interest.

Addressing officers at the General Headquarters, he stressed the need for correct assessment of the threat to the nation, adding that without analysing the whole spectrum of the threat, a wholesome response could not be worked out.

He reiterated that consensus on the threat was of utmost importance in order to garner public support. He dwelt on the concept of national security and said that defence of the country was best ensured when all elements of national power were harmonised.—APP
