FAISALABAD, April 8: Following a demonstration by students on Tuesday, the National Textile University (NTU) suspended its educational activities for an indefinite period.

NTU students protested against the administration as, what students say, it failed to get the university affiliation with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) despite passage of a considerable period.

They said they had asked the administration time and again to resolve the issue, but to no avail.

Insiders said scores of students damaged the university property and disrupted the academia atmosphere to press the administration to accept their demands. They also boycotted the classes.

Letters have also been dispatched to the parents of “rabble-rousers”, sources say.

Talking to Dawn, NTU Vice Chancellor Masood Biabani said all educational activities would be suspended only for a few days.

He said students had been invited by the administration numbers of times for talks, but they did not like to sit with the management.

About the university accreditation with the PEC, Mr Biabani said efforts were on for the purpose and university administration had been doing its utmost to resolve all genuine issues of the academia.
