Asif may contest for Larkana seat

LARKANA, April 14: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appointed the district and session judge Qambar-Shahdadkot, Zameerul Hasnain Larik, as the District Returning Officer (DRO) while Additional Session Judge Manomal as Returning Officer for NA-207 (Ratodero, Mirokhan and Shahdadkot) constituency.

The election to the seat was postponed after the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto who had filed papers to contest in the 18 February polls.

The party sources told ‘Dawn’ that either Asif Zardari or Ms Faryal Talpur would contest from NA-207. Once decision is reached, the nomination papers would be filed on April 20, sources said.

PROTEST: Voicing concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Qambar-Shahdadkot district, the activists of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party and citizens took out a procession in Qambar town on Monday.

Right from Sabzi mandi to press club the protestors parading on different roads, chanted slogans for posting of PSP police officer to contain the increasing graph of crime in the district.

They said that the ‘favoured’ police officers deputed in this district had failed to fight against the crime and the criminals.

Ghulam Mujtaba Mangan, a landlord kidnapped from Gogharo, is untraceable even after one month, they said.

BAN: Larkana District Nazim Mohammad Bakhsh Arijo, invoking powers conferred on him under section 144 CrPC, has declared 29 examination centres as prohibited areas, where the theory examinations of SSC Part I and II (Class IX and X) Annual Examination 2008 are being conducted by the (BISE) Larkana from April 15 to April 22.
