Younis available for final ODI

MULTAN, April 16: Prolific Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has made himself available for the last One-day International of the five-match series against Bangladesh, to be held in Karachi on Saturday.

Sources told Dawn Younis had contacted chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed, making himself available for the final ODI to be staged at the National Stadium, after missing out the third and fourth matches held in Lahore and Multan, respectively, for personal reasons.

Younis’s sudden withdrawal from the series triggered controversies as many believe he took the decision as a protest after being questioned by the ICC chief security officer Allan Peacock last week.

Sources, however, said Younis was not angry for being interrogated, but he was annoyed how the news had been leaked to the media.

Younis along with Umar Gul and Danish Kaneria and a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official, were grilled by the ICC security official regarding alleged acceptance of precious gifts from an Indian citizen during the last tour of India.

As Younis had been relieved after the second match in Faisalabad, Umar’s omission from the third ODI gave an impression that both the players were angry over the inquiry.

Umar, however, returned for the fourth game on Wednesday and now the news of Younis’s return ended all rumours.
