KHAIRPUR, April 20: Labour leaders have demanded establishment of industries in the district to solve the problem of unemployment and said that cement factories could be set up in the hilly areas of the district.

They were speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of office-bearers of the newly-formed Khairpur Construction Workers Union in Phool Bagh here on Saturday. They said that promises to industrialise the district were made during election rallies of the Pakistan People’s Party and also during its last government.

They demanded that children of labourers be provided free education up to university level and a women’s university be established in upper Sindh.

They said that they expected that the government would solve problems being faced by labourers and implement Benazir Bhutto’s slogan of “Roti, Kapra Aur Makan.”

They said that recently the price of rice had increased by up to 45 per cent due to which daily wage earners and other labourers were unable to buy rice.
