KARACHI, April 21: Additional Inspector-General of Police, Sultan Salahuddin Babar Khattak, has been appointed capital city police officer (CCPO).

The new city police chief, who is a Grade-21 officer of the Pakistan Police Services group, was earlier posted as Additional IG of the Special Branch.

Mr Khattak replaced Additional IG Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, who was appointed CCPO in January 2008.

According to a press release issued by the Sindh police, Mr Khattak joined the police service as an ASP in 1973. He was first posted to Sanghar as ASP. He was later appointed ASP Ferozabad, SP Central Karachi, SP Civil Lines Karachi, SP Nawabshah, SP Badin, AIGP Establishment Sindh Police, SSP Dadu, SSP East Karachi, DIG Traffic, DIG Crime Branch Sindh, DIG Special Branch Sindh, DIG Sukkur, DIG Karachi Range, DIG Security SB Punjab, Director FIA Karachi and RPO Hyderabad.

Mr Khattak assumed the charge of his new office on Monday afternoon.

The appointment of the CCPO was accompanied by a clutch of transfers in the police department.

SSP Aleem Jafri was transferred and posted as DIG West on Monday. He was earlier posted as ADIG South.

The Hyderabad District Police Officer, SP Imran Shaukat, was transferred and posted as SP Lyari.

SSP Najaf Mirza, who was earlier posted as DPO Thatta, replaced SP Shaukat as DPO Hyderabad. SP Javed Odho was posted as DPO Ghotki.

Meanwhile, according to a notification issued on Monday night, SP Gulberg Saqib Ismail Memon was transferred and posted as DPO Sanghar. SP Salam Shaikh, who was earlier posted as ASP Gulistan-i-Jauhar, was appointed DPO Tando Muhammad Khan. SP Furrukh Bashir, who was posted as SP Landhi, was appointed DPO Jamshoro. SP Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh was posted as DPO Mirpurkhas.

SSP Waliullah Dal was posted as DPO Jacobabad. SSP Keamari Dr Kamran Fazal was ordered to report to the central police office.
