TOBA TEK SINGH, April 21: The Gojra Sadar police are yet unable to arrest proclaimed offender (PO) Iqbal, alias Bali Marth, the main culprit wanted for murdering DSP Ashiq Marth in Chak 429 JB, Marthanwala, on Sunday.
However, according to sources, the police have taken into custody his alleged accomplice, Faisal Marth, who is Iqbal’s brother-in-law and an Elite Force assistant sub-inspector (ASI), without formally arresting him in connection with the DSP’s murder.
On Sunday night, the police registered an FIR on the complaint of murdered DSP’s younger brother Zafar Marth, also an ASI, against Iqbal and two accomplices, Faisal Marth and Noor Muhammad.
When contacted, the police officials did not confirm that Faisal Marth had been arrested.
Locals told Dawn on Monday that six people, three each from two rival groups headed by Iqbal Marth and Asif Marth, respectively, have so far become victim of the feud erupted over a matrimonial dispute a few years back. In the last incident of its kind, Iqbal had allegedly killed Asif Marth in 2007 and was later declared PO in this case. DSP Marth was pursuing the same case due to which Iqbal had developed grudge against him.
DSP Marth was also the complainant of a narcotic case against Asif Ali Zardari instituted in 1997. The case is still pending in the court of Lahore additional sessions judge Ijazul Hasan and next date of hearing is April 26.
Scores of people including acting-DPO Rana Muhammad Iqbal attended the funeral of the DSP on Sunday night. Subsequently, his body was taken to Lahore on the will of her daughters and widow where he was buried on Monday.

The Rajana police said that Abida Perveen allegedly had an affair with a youth of the same village. Her cousin Imran Ghafoor saw her with her paramour which incident provoked him and later he shot her dead on the spot and fled.
