Wapda, NBP reach badminton final

ISLAMABAD, April 22: Wapda and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) have reached the men’s final of the 51st National badminton championship played at the Rodham Hall on Tuesday.

In the first semi-final, Wapda defeated Karachi Port Trust (KPT) 3-0. In the singles event Wajid thrashed Anees-ur-Rehman 21-5, 21-10 and Orner Zeeshan beat Tariq by 21-6, 21-11.

In the doubles category, Rizwan Rana & Attique Ch. sidelined Tariq & Asad 21-13, 21-17.

NBP walloped Pakistan Railways by 3-0 in the second semi-final.

In the singles event, Rizwan Azam beat Waqas Zahid 21-11, 21-13, Muhammad Ijaz hammered Ali Mehdi 17-21, 21-11, 21-16.

In the doubles category, Rizan & Harrison beat Zohaib & Nabeel by 21-12, 21-13.

Meanwhile, in the women’s team event semi-final, Wapda and NBP advanced to the final’s after defeating Islamabad and Pakistan Railways, respectively.

Wapda hammered Islamabad 3-0. In the singles event, Shahnaz Shah thrashed Razia 16-21, 21-17, 21-9 and Aneeka Rana beat Saira 21-9, 21-3. Uzma Butt & Sadia beat Razia & Saira 21/8, 21/10 in the doubles category.

In the second semi final NBP confirmed their berth for the final after defeating Pakistan Railways 3-0.

Sara Khan beat Sidra 21-9, 21-10 and Sara Mohmand beat Sumaira 21-6, 21-8 in the singles event. In the doubles event, Sara Khan & Sara Mohmand outplayed Sumaira & Yasmeen 21-7, 21-6.
