Wapda claim women’s karate title

LAHORE, April 27: Wapda with 120 points won the 4th National women’s karate championship at the Wapda Sports Complex here on Sunday.

Wapda clinched five gold, one silver and a bronze medal to claim the top position.

Punjab with 75 points, remained the runners-up by notching up one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

Sindh occupied the third spot with 50 points, having claimed one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

Police (40 points), NWFP (20), Islamabad (5) and Balochistan (5) were the other participating teams in the championship.

Results:

Below 44kgs: Fatima Meena (Wapda); Arfa Farshad (Police).

Below 48kgs: Sundus Salam (Sindh); Sana Kausar (Punjab).

Below 53kgs: Beenish Akbar (Punjab) Uzma Asghar (Wapda).

Below 60kgs: Banish Khan (Wapda); Farah Malik (Police).

Above 60kgs: Kulsoom Hazara (Wapda), Humaira Akhtar (Sindh). Individual kata: Zarpash Mustapha (Wapda); Benish Akbar (Punjab).

Team kata: Kulsoom Hazara, Fatima Meena, Sohaila (Wapda); Benish Akbar, Sughran Akbar, Samina Akbar (Punjab).
