KHAIRPUR: Enmity claims a life

KHAIRPUR, April 28: A man was killed and another injured in crossfire between two groups of Mangla community on Monday.

Members of one group were harvesting wheat crop in the jurisdiction of police station Sobhodero when their rivals opened fire. This resulted in the of exchange of fire from both sides killing 30-year old Mukhtiar Mangla on the spot and injuring Mithal alias Manthar of the second group. However, area police did not confirm the injuries of Manthar.

After the killing, about 200 people including women and children carried the dead body on tractor trolleys and went to the National Highway to stage demonstration but police stopped them near Agra-Gambat Road where they raised slogans against police and alleged that Mukhtiar was killed in the presence of police.

Women and police exchanged hot words on the occasion. Protesters staged demonstration for an hour by placing the dead body on Agra-Gambat Road near Lolai location.

Later, Sobhodero police held negotiations with the protesters and assured to arrest accused persons. A dispute between the two groups of Mangla community was brewing since long over karo-kari and property. The dispute so far had claimed six lives.
