HYDERABAD, May 2: A USaid delegation including Senior Technical Adviser William Cartier, representatives of Urban Institute Washington DC Sarah Polen, Imtiaz Ahmed Bhatti, and Mansoor Baloch held discussion with District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil on the progress of various projects.
Mr Jamil provided details of the performance of district government during its two and half-year tenure in the field of health, education and community development. He said the district government was spending 65 per cent of its budget on education sector and some 110 Urdu and Sindhi medium schools had been converted into English medium.
He said in health sector, six new hospitals including a trauma centre were being constructed while hospitals being expanded along with the establishment of new departments of heart diseases, kidney and eye.
DCO Syed Barkat Rizvi, EDO Finance and Planning Javed Junejo, EDO Community Development Shafaat Unnar, EDO Health Dr Ali Bux Pitafi and other officials and elected representatives were present on the occasion.
Several development projects at provincial, district and taluka level in health and education sectors, office equipment and other development projects were being provided financial assistance through the USaid.The delegation appreciated the development schemes undertaken by district government in health and education and construction of infrastructure including roads, flyovers and underpasses.
BYPASS: The Nazim has directed consultant, contractors and concerned officers to complete all ongoing development works on Ghangra Mori Bypass according to time schedule to resolve traffic problem.
He issued these instructions while inspecting the ongoing work on Ghangra Mori Bypass.
Project Director Hyderabad Development Project Syed Sarfaraz Ali Shah, Deputy Project Director Kafeel Ahmed, consultants, engineers and concerned officials accompanied the District Nazim during inspection tour.
He said there was a dire need for alternate routes due to tremendous increase in vehicular traffic on main roads and therefore an amount of Rs900 million were being spent on it.
He said the project will include 11km long road and four parallel 12-feet wide roads. He said in addition to this, another road will be constructed on the other side of the lined channel with 5-feet wide footpaths on both sides. Kanwar Naveed Jamil said two flyovers will also be constructed under this project.
About Latifabad Flyover, he said work on this project was almost complete with hopes that it would be opened for traffic by next month.
