HYDERABAD, May 6: Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) has been directed to conduct laboratory tests of water before releasing it into pipelines.

District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil gave the directive while discussing measures to control gastroenteritis with health officials and elected representatives. He said old water pipelines should be replaced and daily reports be submitted to him directly on measures taken by concerned departments.

He said magistrates will be deputed to ensure no rotten fruit or vegetable or substandard drinks were sold in the market.

He directed medical superintendents of all hospitals to arrange additional beds and replenish the hospitals’ medical stores with necessary supplies.

The nazim said gastroenteritis was a common disease caused by consumption of contaminated water and stale and rotten fruits, vegetables, and sub-standard cold beverages.

He also directed the Anti-Malaria Wing of Health Department to prepare a schedule for spray in each union council.

PUMPING STATIONS: The prime minister has directed the Sindh chief sectary to investigate into four non-functional pumping stations in Jamshoro district and remove defects forever.

In a communication emanating from the Prime Minster’s Secretariat and addressed to Chief Sectary whose copy was with Dawn said Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur MNA (NA-231) during a meeting with the prime minister on April 23 had pointed out that Sada Bahar, Awais Shah Karni, Chachar and Lakhi Shah Saddar pumping stations located in Jamshoro district generally remained out of order causing hardships to the people.

The prime minister desired the matter to be investigated, including smooth functioning of pumping station and removal of defects for good.

A report about the action taken in the matter has also been called for.

RESULT: The controller of examinations, University of Sindh Jamshoro, on Tuesday announced the results of MA (Final) Postgraduate (college side) Annual Examinations 2006.
