UNITED NATIONS, May 13: Former prime minister Shaukat Aziz called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon for an informal meeting at the UN headquarters here on Monday.

Mr Ban appreciated Mr Aziz’s efforts when he headed the UN’s systemwide coherence ‘Blue Ribbon’ panel in 2006 along with Norway’s prime minister.

The panel was established to explore how the UN system could work more coherently and effectively in the areas of development, humanitarian assistance and environment.

Mr Aziz stressed the need for the international community to step forward and help make United Nations’ Central Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) solvent as it had to meet relief requirements world over due to cycle of deadly disasters occurring world over.
