SIALKOT, May 14: Officials of the food department have seized over 45,000 bags of wheat stored in five rice mills in Sirraanwali near Daska on Wednesday evening.

District Food Controller Muhammad Rohail Butt told reporters that the huge quantity of wheat was illegally stored at National Rice Mills, Zulfiqar Rice Mills, Malhi Rice Mills, Amritsar Rice Mills and Home-Doaaba Rice Mills, which were sealed subsequently.

Earlier, the food department recovered around 25,000 bags of wheat stored at various private godowns in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial, Uggoki and Pasrur on Wednesday morning and sealed 25 such godowns.

DFC Rohail Butt said the department had surpassed its wheat purchase target of 470,000 bags, and it had bought 533,000 bags worth Rs836 million so far.

TOBA TEK SINGH: The officials of food and revenue departments have seized over 3,000 bags of wheat stored illegally at two facilities in Kamalia tehsil on Wednesday.

Kamalia DDO (R) Shahid Zaman Lak told reporters that 2,100 bags were seized from an oil factory while another 945 were recovered from a rice factory.

KHANEWAL: The district coordination officer (DCO) and district police officer (DPO) seized 3,000 bags of wheat stored at two cotton factories in Jahanian tehsil, about 30 km away from here, on Wednesday.DCO Qazi Ishfaq and DPO Kamran Khan were checking the movement of wheat and flour when they were informed that a huge quantity of wheat was stored illegally at Kashmir Cotton Factory and Tayyab Cotton Factory in Jahanian. The officers raided the factories and seized 3,000 bags (300,000 kg) of wheat. Later, the DCO ordered registration of cases against factory owners besides handing over the seized stock to the food department.

The DCO also directed the revenue and food department officials not to spare anyone involved in hoarding.

DERA GHAZI KHAN: A patrol police team of Triman on Wednesday foiled an attempt to smuggle flour to the NWFP and registered a case against the truck driver.

The Punjab highway police claimed that they stopped a truck at Triman check post in Wahowa police precinct and recovered 200 bags of flour. The police booked driver Wazeer Khan under the Food Control Act.

Highway police SP (Dera Ghazi Khan range) Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta said the driver had bought flour from Dareshak Flour Mills in Rajanpur.

KASUR: A team, headed by DDO (revenue) Rana Zahid Sharif seized 10,000 bags of wheat from a godown in the limits of Raja Jang police station.

The raiding team sealed the godown and arrested accused Maqbool and got a case registered against him.
