HYDERABAD, May 16: The Hyderabad circuit bench of the Sindh High Court on Friday issued notices to vice-chancellor, dean of the Faculty of Engineering, chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering and registrar of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, asking them to appear in court on May 26.
The notices followed a petition filed by Uzma Samreen, who requested the court to declare that she was eligible to be appointed as lab lecturer in the MUET, and ask the respondents to issue her appointment order.
The petitioner, represented by Irfan Ahmed Qureshi advocate, said that the university had invited applications from qualified engineers for the posts of lecturers and lab lecturer in the Chemical Engineering Department.
She said that her name was on the short-listed merit list as well on the combined list of written test for the posts. The university administration then sent her a letter for interview to be conducted by selection board on Jan 29, she said.
She said that out of top nine candidates on the list only six, including her, appeared before the selection board. Of them four candidates, including Aisha Kousar Abro, Imran Nazir, Mohammad Shoaib Shaikh and Khan Mohammad Qureshi were selected as lecturers, she said.
She was the only candidate for the post of lab lecturer but the board did not issue her appointment orders. According to the university’s rules, the selection board should consist of seven members but on the day of interview the board had only three members, including VC, dean and chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering, she argued.
She said that the university issued orders to the four lecturers but did not issue her appointment order. She prayed the court to declare that she should be appointed as lab lecturer and direct the respondents to issue her appointment order.
